Statement by Chris James on Supreme Court Decision in Louisiana v. Callais

Chris James for Congress

Gilbert, AZ — April 29, 2026

Gilbert, AZ – Chris James, Democrat for Congress in Arizona’s 5th District, issued the following statement on today’s Supreme Court ruling in Louisiana v. Callais:

“Today’s Supreme Court decision gutting the Voting Rights Act essentially paves the way for more gerrymandering that dilutes minority voices. It’s not just a bad ruling, it empowers Donald Trump’s power grab and could roll back decades of progress on equal representation. The ruling hit just as Florida joined Texas in trying to gift Donald Trump more congressional seats at his demand. It also follows Trump’s extraordinary efforts to interfere in state and local elections, including confiscating ballots in Georgia and a recent executive order that would have DHS decide which voters can and cannot vote. Trump is trying to rig the upcoming elections by making it harder for people to vote. This race for Congress has never mattered more. The 5th Congressional District can and will flip with an overwhelming turnout. We’re going to send a strong message to Washington that our government still belongs to the people.”
