Statement by Chris James on Overnight Budget Votes in U.S. Senate

Chris James for Congress

Gilbert, AZ — April 23, 2026

Gilbert, AZ – Chris James, Democrat for Congress in Arizona’s 5th District, issued the following statement:

“In the middle of the night last night, the U.S. Senate advanced Donald Trump’s budget, rejecting every Democrat effort to reverse cuts to health care made in the One Big Beautiful Bill, to restore nutrition benefits for hungry kids, and to lower costs for families. Instead, their budget priorities are billions for ICE, without any guardrails on the abuses we’ve all seen all over the country that have cost three U.S. citizens their lives. Their misplaced priorities are exactly why I jumped into this race for Congress. The budget, like Trump’s visit to Phoenix last week, is a reminder that we need to turn the page on the extremism in Washington, and we need to hold Trump and his lackeys accountable for their broken promises. We need new leadership that focuses on real solutions and works every day to lower costs for Arizonans.”
